WorldCup 2015 Fans In Training pits fans from different countries against each other to see who can take the most steps!
To count your steps, press the PLAY button on the Match screen. Goals are scored by reaching your country's step target. The steps from all players in a country are added together to reach your targets. The more goals you score, the higher the target for the next one.
Every day, there is a new fixture. Check out the league table to see which country is winning!
It is not recommended that you alter your regular routines to play the game. Always seek medical advice before making a change to your activity levels.
How does WorldCup FIT work?
WorldCup FIT records light physical activity such as walking. To record this, WorldCup FIT detects motion and can run in the background while the screen is off or you use other apps. You may notice an effect on battery life while you are counting steps. WorldCup FIT also transmits and receives data.
If you deny location services, the app will stop counting steps in the background until location is re-enabled. Activting airplane mode could also stop the counting.
Privacy
As part of the ‘Populations’ and ‘EuroFit’ project at the University of Glasgow’s Computing Science department, we are deploying mobile applications and studying how they are used. WorldCup FIT is an application developed for research purposes. As a part of this research we will automatically and routinely collect and analyse data from the app.
As you use WorldCup FIT, information will be logged. Information recorded includes your username, points scored, what screens you visit, connectivity information, activity levels, location and information about the model and operating system of your device. The information we collect will be uploaded to our servers for analysis. This data we collect will be kept securely.
You participation in the study will, as far as possible, be kept confidential and your data, as far as possible, will be made anonymous. During the project, all online data will be stored in a password-protected computer account, and paper data will be kept secure. Data may be shared with other researchers. You can contact us at any time if you would like to opt out or request us to destroy your data.
The app may ask you questions about yourself (these questions will generally be optional). Your answers to these will be helpful for the purposes of our research. We may, in future, contact you to ask questions about your use of the system. Should we contact you in this way, your participation in any such questionnaires or interviews will be entirely voluntary and you can decline to answer or ignore any questions.
The outcomes and findings of this study will be made freely available in the form of academic publications and presentations. In publications or presentations, we may use verbatim, interpreted or aggregated versions of the logged data (e.g. comments, details of system use, etc.). However, if you request, we will exclude specific data about you from publications. Such publications and presentations may be available online in addition to print. In either situation, data will be anonymised, with names changed, in order to protect your privacy. You should be aware that someone who knows you and sees such a presentation may be able to identify you, even though we will not give out any information that would directly link it to you.
By installing and using this software you consent to participate in the study, and you confirm that you understand what we will do and what will happen afterwards. If you do not agree to these terms please stop using the application immediately.
