Web and WebDAV Server
iFile contains a Web Server that can serve files to a remote web browser or to a WebDAV client (only for registered iFile copies). As most modern operating systems contain built-in WebDAV clients, iFile can be used as a remote disk drive, e.g. by MacOSX, Windows or Linux.
Web Server Start
After you press the
button the integrated Web Server will be started.
Use via Web Browser
If you use Safari on a PC or Mac, you will easily find the Web Server with Bonjour. Otherwise, you need to enter the displayed address in your browser. The Web Server will display the directory content of the root directory. The user can then navigate down the hierarchy.

You can upload files to or download files from that directory.

Use via WebDAV Client
Mac OS X
- Start Finder and disable file preview.
- Go➔Connect to Server...
- In "Connect to Server" dialog enter the Server Address as displayed by iFile. In case you have chosen username/password authentication, enter username and password as defined in iFile's preferences. Otherwise, connect as guest.
- Press "Connect" button
Note: To avoid creation of .DS_Store files on the iPhone, you may want to read Article HT1629.
You can also use Cyber Duck or another WebDAV client on Mac. It has the advantage that it auto-discovers iFile's WebDAV server via Bonjour.
Linux (Ubuntu 9.10)
This has been tested on Ubuntu 9.10 successfully. There are some problems on Ubuntu 9.04
- Places➔Connect to Server...
- Set fields in "Connect to Server" dialog:
- Service type: WebDAV (HTTP)
- Server: IP Address as displayed by iFile without port, e.g. 192.168.0.2
- Port: Port as displayed by iFile, e.g. 8080
- Folder: /var/mobile
- User Name: leave empty and don't use authentication as this does not work
- Press "Connect" button
Note: Ubuntu 9.10 still has an issue when moving files from one folder to another on the iPhone. The result is that it hangs. It is an error that was also there for copying files from the iPhone to Ubuntu on 9.04. Close the server (and it starts transmitting). However, the move will not be performed.
Windows XP
- In "My Network Places" choose "Add a network place"
- In "Add Network Place Wizard" press Next twice
- Enter iFile's Web Server address as displayed by iFile, e.g. http://192.168.0.10:10000 or http://192.168.0.10:10000/var/mobile
- Press Next and choose a description for this network place
- Press Next and Finish
