• File Browser

The file browser allows to navigate through the directory hierarchy of your iPhone or iPod Touch. All supported file types show with an icon with a colored symbol. To navigate up in the hierarchy use the left navigation bar button. To navigate down the hierarchy just select a folder. If you touch a file, the associated viewer will display or play the file (movies and sound). If no viewer is associated with the file, iFile will show a list of applications or viewers so that you can choose the one you want to use. To return to the home directory of user mobile you just need to use the button. The file browser allows you also to search for file names based on an entered search pattern. This search functionality is possible in normal and editing mode. In addition, you can sort and also group your files by name, extension, date or size.

    Preferences

By pressing the button you can change iFile's preferences:

    • Set on exit: If you switch this to on, iFile will store the current directory when leaving. When switched to off, you can set the directory that iFile should start with.

    • Use Trash: With this option the user can decide if files that get deleted are moved to iFile's trash in /var/mobile/Library/iFile/Trash or if they get completely erased from the file system.
    • Application Names: When this option is switched on, iFile shows the application names for folders in /var/mobile/Applications instead of the cryptic name they normally have.
    • Song Titles: When switched on, audio files (mp3 and m4v) will be displayed with their song title instead of their file name.
    • Thumbnails: When switched on, a thumbnail image will be displayed for every image file smaller than 1MB instead of the according icon.
    • Grouping: With this option enabled iFile will group files using section headers depending on the setting of Sort Criteria.

      • Simple: The search functionality looks for file names containing the search text, e.g. "test".
      • Wildcard: The search text can contain wildcard characters, e.g. * and ?. The entered search text including wildcards must match the whole filename, e.g. "*test*".
      • Regular Expression: The search text is interpreted as regular expression and must match the whole file name, e.g. ".*test.*".
The search strings are always case insensitive and diacritic insensitive (o matches ö).
    • Tabulator Width: The tabulator width field sets how the Text Viewer will expand tabulators to spaces and vice versa when reading and writing a file.
    • Font Size: The font size field allows you to specify the font size to be used by the text viewer.
