Changing EightKeys' Look
To customize the look of the EightKeys replace the images in the following folders:
- /Applications/EightKeys.app/
- /Library/EightKeys/Layouts/EightKeys/
Adding New Keyboard Layout
You can make a new EightKeys keyboard layout by creating a folder under /Library/EightKeys/Layouts/
and adding the following five files:
- Layout.txt :the layout definition of the new keyboard layout
- mainleft.png :the image of the left half of your keyboard
- mainright.png :the image of the right half of your keyboard
- backleft.png :the image of the background for the left half of your keyboard
- backright.png :the image of the background for the right half of your keyboard
The easiest way of doing the above is copying the /Library/EightKeys/Layouts/EightKeys/
folder, rename it and edit the files
Then your keyboard layout will be available in EightKeys once the phone restarts.
The Format of the Layout.txt File
- The first line of text file defines display name of the keyboard layout
- The other lines define the taps and alternatives for each of the letters that are
typed by the eight keys.
- The numbers after 'key' defines the two keys that are tapped to type the letter
after the two numbers (see the picture below on how the eight keys are numbered)
- Up to 16 alternatives for a letter can be specified after the main letter.
- To specify an alternative place '_' followed by the alternative (no space
between the '_' and the letter)
- the word key, the key numbers, the letter and the alternatives should be separated
by exactly one space
